Stevengraph of The Water Jump

“The Water Jump” (STG 158). This is one of the Horse Racing series although it is of course a steeplechase. The spires of Coventry are in the background. It is a surprisingly rare scene being a 4* in the Sprake reference. All the others are 1* except for “Iroquois” of course, available here. This copy is on a C type mount but with no credit below the silk making it a C3 type. It dates it to 1895 to 1898. The label is 31+29b further dating it to 1897. It was quite popular as it was produced through card mounts C to F, so it’s comparative rarity is strange. The colours of the silk are outstanding, and the photographs certainly do not do credit to them. Overall this is an excellent example of this appealing picture. This would go well with “The Start”, “The Struggle” and “The Finish”. 209 mm x 132 mm.
