The Bird Seller

“The Bird Seller” by Kronheim, dated C1860. In the rustic or country pursuits category of Kronheim images. It depicts a young lady being bought a caged bird, probably a linnet famed and preferred for their song. We assume the purchaser and donor to be the sailor boyfriend. They have encountered the seller on their walk from the sea port we can see in the distance. Happily, one of the birds seems to have taken the opportunity to depart! Unmounted. Image size 4″ x 5 1/4″. The colours are good in this example of Kronheim’s work and use of the Baxter printing process.
