In the latter part of the C19th Stevengraphs faced a new competitor. It was not another Jacquard loom product, but a print on to silk. Clearly, it was a cheaper production process, although not comparable in quality to the woven pictures of Stevens, but popular because it was so readily available to a mass market that was beginning to enjoy the availability of coloured images for household decoration for the first time. This is an excellent example of this development, and it encapsulates the Victorian ideal.
