“The Queen & the Heroes of India” by George Baxter (CL No 143) dated 1857. The ten portraits depict personalities associated with India, and were designed to be cut up and placed on needle boxes. The individuals are annotated. It was produced from the same (altered) plate as CL 141 “The Allied Sovereigns and the Commanders of their Forces”, also available on the site, and CL142 (same title with Empress Eugenie in for Marshal St Arnaud.. Unframed with the annotation “In Oil Colours, by Baxter, Patentee”. Classified as Very Rare in the Courtney Lewis references.
