“The Allied Sovereigns and the Commanders of their Forces” by George Baxter (CL No 141) dated 1855. The ten portraits depict personalities associated with the Crimean War and were designed to be cut up and placed on needle boxes. The individuals are annotated. The plate was used for CL143 “The Queen and the Heroes of India”, also available on the site, which substituted Empress Eugenie in for Marshal St Arnaud. As it was well framed I have left it ready for hanging. With the annotation “In Oil Colours, by Baxter, Patentee”. Classified as rare in the Courtney Lewis references, but like CL143 hard to come by complete today.
