“Gems of the Great Exhibition”, being “The Unhappy Child” CL No 178 dated 1854. This is the centre detail from Gems No 2, by Simonis of Brussels. It was extremely popular during the Exhibition, and the prints were sold for 1s each, but 15s on a Stamped Mount which this example is. Courtney Lewis declares that Unmounted versions are worthless, but good work and excellent production cannot and should not be so discounted on the basis of a mount.
