Stevengraph of For Life or Death – Heroism on Land (Two Horses)

Stevengraph of “For Life or Death – Heroism on Land” (STG 190) one of two fire engine scenes, this being the later of the two with the more modern fire appliance and the two horses. Note there is no outrider on another horse like STG 189 and they are attending not a burning building but hayricks. The mount is the E1 type with the shortened credit “Woven in Pure Silk”. It exhibits the impressed leather-like texture and dates the item to 1893-9. No trade label. A four star rarity (out of seven) in the Sprake Darby reference book. Unframed. This is in excellent condition, with bright colours and a clean mount. It forms a pair with STG 179 “Called to the Rescue – Heroism at Sea”.
