Needle Case: A Present from the Crystal Palace (by T Stevens)

A Needle Case A Present from the Crystal Palace, by Thomas Stevens (se 310). This brown version has an embossed flower to the outside flap and a tassel at the end of a rope effect holder for that flap to stay closed. Inside, on the inner flap, is a woven flower in silk  and “With best wishes”. Instead of needles there is a mirror. The next section displays a wonderful exterior view of the Crystal Palace, with the woven title “A Present from the Crystal Palace” above the image. The weaving is in blue. The design is a copy of the postcard version as seen here.   A lovely keepsake of which there would be very few around now. The Stevengraph Silks site has some detail here.  This item has one additional feature which is the original box it came in, complete with the Stevens stamp to the top inside – a very rare survivor.
