Crystal Palace (Exterior View Brown Panel), (sc274Godden n/a Sprake40a). With the colouring of the silk in brown this makes a good pairing with the Interior of Crystal Palace also on the site. The 50mm square silk has an escalloped edge to the embossing, beneath which is “WOVEN IN SILK”. Then there is the title followed by considerable detail –

Additionally, there is a hand written note of June 6/03 and a signature. It is a used card of the same date, and the written text says it is the first of these cards to be sent through the post. Also, that “we” shall have them on sale in about a week’s time. Might the sender be selling them at the Crystal Palace for Thomas Stevens? It certainly appears that way. Also, the Stevengraph-Silks recorded version has a Registration Number bottom left, whereas this copy does not. Therefore, it is likely that this copy precedes registration which followed on 12 June 1903.
