Kenilworth Castle, by Thomas Stevens (sc 204)

This postcard is an experimental design by Thomas Stevens. It has an embossed surround  and the silk shows Kenilworth Castle, with the name sewn into the silk. It is much less detailed than the more common items seen here.  Beneath is “Woven in Silk”. I have referred to Stevengraph Silks , allocated it this reference number and where there is some interesting detail relating to the origin of the experimental silks. They were not intended for sale, but passed down in the Stevens family, as confirmed by a member, so they are very scarce indeed. Not recorded by Godden or Sprake/Darby. Untrimmed, it is an extremely rare item.
