“The Bicentenary of the Act of Uniformity”. This item is referenced in the Godden book on page 335, and is classified as “…objects which are quite rare and little known….”. This design includes the initials “RB” which attributes the design to Robert Barton, one of the most talented Coventry designers. Sprake includes it on page 91 as a token or commemorative. It has never been seen within a traditional mount. This example is clear and in good condition. It has been laid down at the corners on the backing card, and this explains the slight local discolouration. Otherwise the silk is fine. It is currently framed in a gilt moulding and a double decorative mount clear of the piece. It can be unframed, however, for ease of transportation. This item (1862) precedes general Stevengraphs by 17 years! A real piece of weaving history.
