Stevengraph entitled “Landing of Columbus October 12th 1492” (STG 146). The title is woven into the silk bottom left. This comes in a number of forms, with and without the additional information on the mount – Woven in Pure Silk at World’s Columbian Exposition Chicago 1893. This version shows the latter. The usual example has the title on the mount with the date, and the Stevens attribution below the silk. This version illustrated is the rarer of those produced. It is a 5* rarity (of 7*) in the Sprake reference. They were first produced in 1893 as can be seen, and has an impressed “leather” finish to the mount (used 1893-99). There is no trade label to the reverse reflecting the Exposition productions. This is a wonderful example, with vibrant colours and a mount that is nearly perfect.
