This is a delightful image. It is a painted silhouette on card of a lady facing right. She wears evening clothes and the style (generous sleeves) and hair (a high Apollo knot) date it to around 1825. She also wears a necklace which, along with the hair comb, ringlets and hair are all highlighted – bronzed. The brush strokes are extremely delicate detailing the neckline of the dress and the hair on the nape of the neck. There is a high buckle to the front which further dates the item because of the location of the waistband. It is mounted in a papier mache square frame with a simple hanger, the back being all sealed. It is a lovely thing.
