“Bantry Bay” by Kronheim, dated C1860. During the mid C19th the landscape prints were a very popular medium. Baxter, Le Blond and Kronheim capitalised upon it to show their customers different parts of the country. This one is of Bantry Bay, located in County Cork, Ireland. The bay runs approximately 35 km (22 mi) from northeast to southwest into the Atlantic Ocean. It is approximately 3-to-4 km (1.8-to-2.5 miles) wide at the head and 10 km (6.2 mi) wide at the entrance. The picture has the attribution to the left of the title (JM Kronheim & Co), and to the right “London”. Great detail in the picture the title being below the image. Image size 4 1/2″ x 2 1/2″, unmounted. A really good quality example of Kronheim’s work and use of the Baxter printing process.
