“The First Impression” or “First Impressions” CL No 158 dated 1850 was used to illustrate Suttaby’s Le Souvenir” of 1851, and this version is usually called the small variation (3 3/4″ x 2 3/4″), or “Sterne and the Grisette”. Writing paper packets may be found with this outer illustration. There are two copies available with domed tops being on RSM (no SM issued). From the Bertrand Morgan collection. The Courtney Lewis reference has this print as “Rare” when on a mount. Of course it is a dated image, but the sentiment and the print work are outstanding examples of the time.
