Tunbridge Wells – the Pantiles.

“Tunbridge Wells – the Pantiles. “, one of the iconic images produced by the Tunbridge manufactories, and the detail of how it was constructed is clearly explained in the Austen reference  “Tunbridgeware” page 92). These blocks were produced by Hollamby in 1875 , and then maybe passed to Boyce, Brown and Kemp (1891). The attribution of this image is almost certainly by Hollamby, primarily because the later productions tended not to have the plain surround. Additionally, he passed his work blocks to the others anyway! Beautifully presented within a leaf patterned “Oxford Frame”. Overall, the condition of this item is exceptional. Outer frame size is 27 cms x 23.5 cms and the image size (mosaic) 15.5 cms x 11.5 cms. Although it might seem so, this is not glazed.
