A particularly lovely and well decorated page turner or letter opener in Tunbridge ware. The geometric pattern is on both sides of the handle as well as the blade, the underlying wood being rosewood. Nicely polished and in great condition. It is 20 cms long by 2 cms wide. Difficult to date because they were a popular item, made by all the manufacturers, but approximately 1860-80. See the Austen reference book (page 129) Picture 16 for a very similar example.
