“The Gleaners” (LB No 79 CL No 95) by Abraham Le Blond (1819-94). See Lycett/Martin reference book on page 25. Two signature version with Le Blond’s and Elliot’s details bottom centre. A clean mount, and excellent colourings. Another of the classical Victorian rural scenes often depicted in pictures of the time. The process fed the poorer people and the farmer gained by the edges of his field crop being tidied up before ploughing. The tradition went back to biblical times. Probably copied from a painting by John Linnell.
