Silk Valentine “To One I Love”

This very pretty Valentine on a silver filigree is made up of a chromolithograph, then to the rear a padded silk panel. On the panel is the script: “To One I Love, Oh may your way be ever free from sorrow and from pain; and may you always think of me, and love me back again.” Additionally there is the original ribbon hanger to the top and a tassel below. Seldom are these silk cards marked by the manufacturer but it is included amongst the Stevens’ work because it is silk. They were produced by Stevens from 1868 and sold at 6s 6d. Most had an oval silk panel. Dimensions 7.5 cms x 13 cms.
