Baxter Print Paul & Virginia

Three versions of this, one of the prettiest of Baxter’s prints, were produced. This variation, produced in 1850, shows the couple in a day scene (CL150). This square print is sometimes known as “the large Paul & Virginia”. It is an outstanding copy as seen in the pictures. Signed bottom left with the following detail in the plate margin – Paul & Virginia Engraved, Printed and Published by G Baxter Patentee, 11 Northampton Square (Entd at Stationers Hall) 1850. The second version is again a day scene (also CL151) but oval in shape and used on music covers. The third version is the “small” variants and the night scene (CL150). This is overmounted with a gilt decoration to the mount ready for framing.
