“Forget-me-nots” by Abraham Le Blond (LB 107 CL 121). Until 1865 Le Blond’s work was limited to the size of the ovals, but from then to 1868 he produced 9 subjects of a size part way between the ovals and Baxter’s larger works. Like most of the remainder this one is signed “Le Blond & Co, London. LA Elliot & Co Boston US” in the bottom right as depicted in the pictures. They were all un-mounted, and this one was taken from a painting by A Durer Lucas, a Southampton flower painter. The detail is fine, with the church steeple in the distance and the couple on a fallen tree. It was printed from 18 blocks. This is a fine copy showing Le Blonds’ expertise. Also note, in the margin, the printing holes that positioned the paper to allow the application of the sequence of blocks for each colour application.
