Five images from “Gems of the Poets” dated 1860. These are signed by AF Lydon and printed from wood blocks, by Groombridge & Sons. Fawcett was the engraver of the 29 Coloured Plates within the book. The five illustrated here are: 1. “Canst thou forget when every twilight tender, Mid dews and sweets, beheld our slow steps rove.” 2. “And all the village train, from labour free, Led up their sports beneath the spreading tree.” 3. “Down where yon anchoring vessel spreads the sail.” 4. “Bright lily of the wave! Rising in fearless grace with every swell.” 5.”There, at the foot of yonder nodding branch…..”.The colours are lovely and the detail well executed in these charming images.
