The Late Fred Archer (STG No 22) in Mr Manton’s colours (Duchess of Montrose pseudonym)of scarlet sleeves, body and cap. Under the image is written “Woven in pure silk by T Stevens, Coventry”. The title is The Late Fred Archer printed below that. On the back we have the printed label with his life’s details recorded, and the date of the piece is about 1887-90. There is no stamp at the base with the name of the owners’ colours. He was the first of the sports people portrayed by Stevens. The Archer signature is woven into the silk. 12.5 cms x 16.5 cms. The silk and mount are in good condition.
