“The Plain of Sorrento” by Kronheim, dated C1860. During the mid C19th the landscape prints were a very popular medium. Baxter, Le Blond and Kronheim capitalised upon it to show their customers different parts of the world. This one of Sorrento is of interest as it was a popular destination for the Grande Tour, and Sorrento ware was often brought back as a souvenir. It relates to Tunbridgeware pieces and care needs to be taken as to which is which, but to the practised eye it is not hard to distinguish. Great detail in the picture which is mounted in a simple cream mount with applied border line, the title being below the image. Image size 5″ x 3″ and mount size 8″ x 6″. A really good quality example of Kronheim’s work and use of the Baxter printing process.
