Tunbridgeware Compass

One of the more unusual functions within the Tunbridge ware family is that of the compass. Within a very small screw topped container, more associated with a a pill box, we have the compass set. The compass paper is marked with the main cardinal points and subsets, and to the outer side is the 0 to 360 degree scale. The pointer has a pierced arrow one side. The top is a classic example of the perspective cube in its simplest form. It is probably therefore one of the earlier examples of Tunbridge ware, about 1840. An unusual item which interestingly is not included in the list within the Austen reference. A scientific collectable. Compare with the other on the site with more decoration and a T Barton label.
