“Me Warm Now” (CL No 265) is a classic example of Baxter’s work, more popular when produced than now. This is an excellent copy signed bottom right: “Published Decr 9 1853 by G Baxter Proprietor & Patentee London” on three lines (see images), but unmounted. Dated 1853 it is a very Victorian subject. It was printed mainly for the US market, and has a statement to make about the slave trade, so social context is important. Printed shortly after Baxter’s trip to the 1853 New York Great Exhibition.
