“Columbus Leaving Spain” (STG 145) dated from 1893. This very fine silk is mounted in an original F mount which in turn is in pristine condition. It portrays the title in thick script lettering, and “WOVEN IN SILK” in larger lettering than used beforehand. It also has the date of departure within the silk weaving. It was produced in the period 1906 onwards, on a darker mount than before. There is no back label, so the lettering on the mount is the surest way of identifying the production date. Unframed. The earliest silks of this image lacked the date within the weaving and are very rare. This is an outstanding example of this silk and the mount enhances the picture. The Sprake reference lists it as a 5* rarity.
