Tunbridgeware Folding Easel

A slightly unusual Tunbridgeware item. Standing at 41 cms high this is in mahogany with a series of inlaid turnery discs of geometric pattern. The two struts are secured to the rear support strut by another turnery screw threaded piece. This in turn is threaded to the rear undecorated knob. There are three threaded holes for the picture rests to screw into, and the original screw threaded rests can be seen in the pictures engaged to the easel. Not an easy item to take pictures of, so some images are with it laid down to allow a close up. The rear support strut is hinged. At full extension it means the displayed picture would be far too far off the vertical. It is therefore best used on a non-slip surface such as the quilt or mat, as in the pictures. Then a selected angle will be held in place, and the picture to be displayed will add to the stability with it’s own weight. There are a few signs of wear, but overall, the folding easel is a rare survivor, and in good condition.
