Stevengraph of “Ye Lady Godiva”, (STG 151). It rates a 3 (out of 7) star rarity value in the Sprake Darby reference book. Below the title we have the extract from Tennyson’s poem. The silk is in excellent condition, the mount has a slight discolouration. It is a very popular subject, and the picture details show Peeping Tom looking on. These are squarer pictures than the normal Stevens’ work. This is on an E1 mount dating it to the period 1893-9. The back label is a 31+39b variation, the second half of 1901. Godden states that standard back labels do not occur with the title “Ye Ladye Godiva” – so this example proves different and adds to the general knowledge base.
