In this frame are two examples of the Tunbridgeware art. Starting with the tesserae mosaic piece, it is a section, I think, of the coloured design drawn and painted on graph paper for a mosaic block of the Solar and Buckingham Buildings, Penshurst Place. It is attributable to Henry Hollamby c 1850 and the drawing is on page 87 of the Austen reference. The drawing itself is in the Tunbridge Wells museum. The detail of this piece and its’ origins are on page(s) 88/89 of the same reference, as well as the means of production. But a word of caution – I have the Views (Illustrated on end grain Tunbridgeware designs) by KB King of the museum. The images are not great but there are other scenes that this could represent. The second piece in the frame is a block of parquetry sticks of triangles, dated mid to late C19th. For a similar example see page 86.Beautifully framed in a period gilt moulding, with a triple cream mount, these original workshop pieces are attractive items of Tunbridgeware items. Frame size 10.5 cms x 14 cms.
