“Shall I Succeed” (CL No 270) dated 1850 by George Baxter. This oval image was used as an illustration in Suttaby’s “Marshall’s Ladies’ Elegant Pocket Souvenir” in 1850, and “The Souvenir”. It is sometimes called “The Coquette”. It is not often found, and is a very pretty example of Baxter’s work. It is one of the less seen oval prints, was not produced on the Stamped Mount, but only the Red Seal Mount (as here) and Pocket Book or Unmounted. In this form it is classified as “Rare” in the Courtney Lewis reference.
