A Tangram puzzle in rosewood Tunbridgeware box by Edmund Nye. Much of the mystery of doing the puzzle has gone now since a search on the internet will tell you how to do it. However, that is also a good check to see that all the pieces are there. This example has a geometric pattern to the top made up of excellent wood colours. It is not decorated to the sides. In lovely condition with all the tesserae present. Attribution of these small pieces is normally very hard but here it is simple. We have the Edmund Nye label to the base as can be seen in the pictures. This label is on page 152 of the Austen reference book. Nye (1797-1863) was a quality mosaic worker, and he used this label from 1840-45. A truly lovely item for any collection. Previously owned by Brian Austen.
