Tunbridge Ware Oxford Style Picture Frame

A Tunbridge Ware Oxford Style Picture Frame of mid-range size. The aperture is 15 cms across and 18.5 cms vertically. It is hung by a single loop to the top bar of the moulding. The outside dimensions are 21.5 cms across the Oxford frame extensions, and 25 cms vertically. The Tunbridgware design is a simple geometric pattern on the front face only. Of real interest is the original label on the back. A wonderful cartouche surmounted by the Royal Arms, and the addresses of branches below in London (4) and Brighton (1) and Birmingham (1). The company deserves more research, but the Brighton store would have been the one where this item was most probably ordered from, it being the centre of Brightonware, and later Tunbridgeware retailers.
