John Wesley by L Tallis

This very attractive print of the Rev John Wesley is by L Tallis. John Tallis (1816-1872) was a cartographer and publisher of outstanding quality. His maps always exhibited decorative borders with vignettes. Even this relatively humble print has an attractive border. A copy of this print is in the Duke Divinity School special library collection. Although clearly from the same company of the Tallis family all the copies of this steel engraving are undated but set it at mid C19th. The same applies to a print of the birth place of Wesley by the same hand. It is very uncommon, and in excellent condition. Page size 11.5 cms x 18 cms.
