This is one of an outstanding set of Plates in immaculate condition, of museum quality. This one – “The Gems of the Great Exhibition No 1, CL No 166”. It represents the French Department and consists of three parts that were produced as separate prints. To the left we have “Cupid and Psyche” CL No 174 (Benzoni), then “Sabrina” CL No 173 (Marshall), and finally “A Nymph” CL No 175 (Wyatt). In the background the principal objects are rug work, ebony carved furniture, also pearwood, and jewellery of the Queen of Spain. This print was produced in March 1852 from 10 blocks. This item has the added advantage of the reference page, see images. Rated as Common by CL, but in this condition you would be lucky indeed to find such a copy.
