Stevengraph of “The Final Spurt” (STG170)

Stevengraph “The Final Spurt”(STG 170). The second of the Oxford & Cambridge Boat Race pair. Three star rarity value (out of seven) in the Sprake & Darby book on Stevengraphs, and strangely a rarer item than the first, presumably produced in less numbers. One of the earlier editions as denoted by the B2 type mount used in the period 1881-1888. The 21+10+2 Trade Label was used in early 1887 thereby dating this piece accurately. A really good copy, the mount in good undamaged condition, the silk flat with colour. Note how the direction of travel is the opposite of it’s pair – see “Are You Ready” STG 169 here.
