A very pretty Tunbridgeware money box which, due to its construction was most likely to be a trade sample. There is no opening to retrieve the money! For that reason it is probable that this was a trade sample. The top has a simple geometric design made up of two borders, inner and outer, being tessellated mosaic ware. The base wood is rosewood. There is no money box listed in the Austen reference for auction prices. However, they are mentioned in the Appendix under mosaic ware. As the design is simple it is hard to attribute it to a maker, and is probably dated within the period mid-Victorian era of mosaic ware, Circa 1850-70.
