Valentine Card by JT Wood 1841-1880

This Valentine Card is beautiful. Set on perforated lace is the highly embossed and coloured flower decoration. It is hinged in four places and can be lifted. Below it is the oval, probably of satin (because that was Wood’s preferred material) with the poem scripted on it, called “I Love Thee Still”. Below that is the notation “London, JT Wood”. He was a printer and publisher and active in the period 1841 to 1880.  The perforated lace was a speciality of Woods, and Valentine cards a mainstay of the business. Cards of this nature were high Victorian taste and are a lovely collecting area now. 9 cms x 14 cms.
