Tartanware Desk Blotter

An unusual Tartanware desk blotter, the tartan being M’Nachtan, in itself an unusual attribution. It is quite large as one might expect for this desk item, 9 1/4″ x 12″ x 7/10″. The condition of the tartan is very good all around, and the profuse gilt decoration in each corner is complete. It shows a stag surrounded by thistle on each of three corners, and then a very unusual image on the fourth. It consists of a boy in highland dress between two dogs, again surrounded by thistles. The original binding and spine is complete and firm. Inside the Palais Royal No 7 silk is in surprisingly good condition. It acts as endpapers for the boards as well as for the blotting paper folder. The old and mixed blotting paper shows good use for this lovely object. This is a rare item indeed, and in such lovely condition is a wonderful addition to a collection.
