Steven’s Postcard RMS Mauretania

Stevengraph postcard depicting RMS Mauretania. Stevens’ cards are distinguishable from those by Grant due to the embossed mount. When framed it is lovely to allow access to the back of the card to allow viewing of the interesting comments of the original senders. Here we have a detailed note from Charlie to Allis dated May 20. He had arrived in Brooklyn and is describing his job prospects. Built on the Tyne and launched in 1906 she was the world’s largest ship for a time and won the east Blue Riband returning on her maiden voyage. Sister ship to “Lusitania” she was expensive to run during the war, so was laid up for a while before serving in Gallipoli. She continued normal service after the war and was scrapped at Rosyth in 1935. Her distinctive service led to President Roosevelt lamenting her fate.
