Steven’s Postcard RMS Victorian

Stevengraph “postcard” depicting RMS Victorian. Stevens’ cards are distinguishable from those by Grant due to the embossed mount. When mounted it is interesting to display the back to allow viewing of the social history written by the original senders. Here the sender sailed on 25 May 1913 The writer has obviously arrived at their destination and will be sending views of the district they are in to the recipient of the card. Victorian was the world’s first turbine-powered ocean liner, designed as a transatlantic liner and mail ship for Allan Line and launched in 1904. Built in Belfast, she had a sister ship, Virginian, which was built in Scotland and launched four months later. During the First World War she was an armed merchant cruiser (AMC), and in 1918 she also carried cargo and troops. In 1920 she returned to civilian service with the Canadian Pacific Steamship Company, but in 1921 the British Government chartered her as a troop ship. In 1922 Canadian Pacific renamed her Marloch. She was scrapped in 1929. 10700 tons.  A scarce card.
