This is a very pretty needle case which could interest needlework collectors as well as those interested in early colour printed images. The outer boards are hinged (in excellent condition) and are made up of a matching pair of flower images. The images appear to be early lithographic, and would date the item to about 1860-1880. They have retained their original colour and are surrounded by cut and embossed paper design which has been decoratively gilded. The original cotton ties remain in place. Inside, on each cover, are two pretty needle box prints. Again, they appear to be early lithographs. They are reminiscent of George Baxter’s work. The central needle felt holds a number of vintage needles. For an item that was in use, and probably mixed in with many other needle work items, it has survived really well. At 4″ x 3 1/4″ it is somewhat larger than we might expect.
