Plate of Diagrams, Frost’s “Two Systems of Astronomy”. (CL 374 plates 1,3,6,7,9,10, being 374B, 374D, 374G, 374H, 374J, 374K). There are 11 plates in the set altogether. Below each is the script “Printed in Oil Colours by G.Baxter, Patentee, 11, Northampton Square”. Dated to 1846 being 10 3/4″ x 7 1/2″ the page being 12 1/4″ x 9 1/2″. The issues these diagrams address are reproduced here – You will be introduced to the “Muggletonians and their religious sect, their views of the world. There is further discussion and background to this strange world here. Baxter was drawn into this matter having been asked to reproduce their diagrams, but it is these 6 diagrams that we see more often than not. That in itself is a mystery. Why do we not see the remainder as loose prints like these? They are a fascinating insight to the times and thought processes in this age of scientific advancement and religious fervour. They are also very attractive items when framed. Currently mounted in a beige mount card. These prints have sold at Sotheby’s and Christies for all sorts of prices, often in the thousands of pounds.
